Important Reminder on Court Etiquette and Paddle Queue at All Resident Open Play Courts

The Board has recently received feedback regarding court usage, particularly at our All Resident Open Play courts. We want to take this opportunity to remind everyone of the established rules and emphasize the importance of sportsmanship and common courtesy while on the courts.

Important Distinction:

A reminder that the All Resident Open Play courts are open to everyone in the Solivita community, not just Smashers members. This is different from Scheduled Open Play courts, which are exclusively for Smashers members.

Paddle Queue Reminders:

The paddle queue system is in place to ensure fair play and equal opportunity for everyone to participate. Please remember these key points:

  • Paddles in the Queue: When you arrive at an All Resident Open Play court and wish to play, place your paddle in the designated queue. This indicates that you are waiting for the next available game.
  • Checking the Queue: Before entering the court to play, always check the paddle queue. If there are paddles in the queue, those players have priority.
  • Communicating Clearly: Clear communication helps avoid misunderstandings. For example:
    • If you’re warming up and waiting for someone, say, “We’re waiting for one more.”
    • If you’re already a group of three and someone puts their paddle in the queue, let them know you’re just waiting for one more to complete your foursome.

Sportsmanship and Common Courtesy:

Creating a positive and welcoming environment for all players is essential. We ask that everyone practice good sportsmanship and common courtesy by:

  • Respecting the Rules: Following the established rules, including the paddle queue system, ensures fair play for everyone.
  • Communicating Clearly: Open and respectful communication can prevent many misunderstandings.
  • Being Considerate: Be mindful of other players waiting to play and avoid any behavior that could be perceived as disrespectful or disruptive. This includes loud or abusive language, berating other players, or any actions that detract from the enjoyment of others.

Reporting Concerns:

If you witness any incidents of disrespectful behavior or rule violations, please report them to the Board by filling out the Court Etiquette Concern Form. We encourage you to report incidents promptly so they can be addressed effectively.

We are committed to ensuring that all members have a positive and enjoyable experience on the pickleball courts. By working together and practicing good sportsmanship and following the rules, we can maintain a welcoming and inclusive environment for everyone.

Thank you for your cooperation.
