This is an important opportunity to shape the future leadership of our club, and we encourage all members to participate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Candidates<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>We have three candidates running for the three open positions:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul style=\"margin-right:var(--wp--preset--spacing--40);margin-left:var(--wp--preset--spacing--40)\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Gene Burch<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Elaine Greenzang<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Rick Ackley<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Bios for each candidate appear below on this page.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Election Details<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the candidates for one of the open positions on the FY 2025 Board of Directors has decided to remove themselves from consideration. As a result, there will be no need for an election to fill the open Board positions. \u00a0There are three positions open and three candidates running. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These candidates will be appointed to the board by acclimation. \u00a0This is in accordance with Standing Rule 5, which states that &#8220;<em>candidates are automatically appointed or elected without a formal vote in uncontested elections<\/em>\u201d. \u00a0The new Board members will be formally announced at the upcoming General Membership Meeting on\u00a0January 29th at the Starlite Ballroom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Candidate Bios<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-e3b87711 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\" style=\"margin-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--40);margin-bottom:var(--wp--preset--spacing--40);padding-top:0;padding-right:0;padding-bottom:0;padding-left:0\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-container-core-column-is-layout-119bc444 wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"448\" height=\"640\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/ackley.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-19269\" style=\"width:auto;height:150px\" srcset=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/ackley.jpg 448w, \/wp-content\/uploads\/ackley-210x300.jpg 210w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 448px) 100vw, 448px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">Rick Ackley<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>My name is Rick Ackley. I have been a Solivita resident since June 12, 2018.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I am retired and my work background was as follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul style=\"margin-bottom:0;margin-left:var(--wp--preset--spacing--40)\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>30 years in information technology rising from a computer operator to my final position as a systems administrator in hospitals, a law school, and manufacturing environments (Attained professional designation as a certified Information Systems Auditor \u2013 CISA)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>15 years as a facilities manager responsible for the operation, construction management and overall maintenance of a multi story building in Winston-Salem, NC.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Outside Activities<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My \u201coutside activity\u201d experience is considerable and I will try to capsulize it in the following section.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul style=\"margin-left:var(--wp--preset--spacing--40)\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>1977 to 1980 Junior Achievement advisor for a high school group in Portland, Maine<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1981 \u2013 2018 North Carolina<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Youth basketball program coach, member of governing board (various positions)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Board member for a community center (various positions including 12 years as president)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Youth football program coach, league representative board member (various positions including 4 years as president)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>31 years as a HS football official, clinic leader and rules interpreter for northwestern North Carolina<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>24 years as a HS basketball official and clinic leader<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Active for many years in my church as a choir member and several board opportunities<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>I am currently a member of the Court Expansion Committee<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Personal Summary<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I have been an instructor for the Smashers in various capacities for the last 4 \u00bd years and have truly enjoyed it. My goal as a board member is to help pickleball to grow in Solivita and to find ways to add more fun aspects to our program. I am particularly interested in the training program and am anxious to find ways to improve it.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-container-core-column-is-layout-119bc444 wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"478\" height=\"1024\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/burch-478x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-19270\" style=\"width:auto;height:150px\" srcset=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/burch-478x1024.jpg 478w, \/wp-content\/uploads\/burch-140x300.jpg 140w, \/wp-content\/uploads\/burch-768x1645.jpg 768w, \/wp-content\/uploads\/burch-717x1536.jpg 717w, \/wp-content\/uploads\/burch-956x2048.jpg 956w, \/wp-content\/uploads\/burch-600x1285.jpg 600w, \/wp-content\/uploads\/burch.jpg 1080w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 478px) 100vw, 478px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">Gene Burch<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>I moved to Solivita in 2011 and have made numerous contributions to the Solivita community through my interests in pickleball, horseshoes, fishing and classic cars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For pickleball,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul style=\"margin-right:0;margin-left:var(--wp--preset--spacing--40)\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>I was a USAPA Ambassador for Connecticut from 2012 \u2013 2015.&nbsp; I provided outreach and training to local towns and helped them to obtain grants for their startup pickleball programs.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>I have been an instructor of the sport since 2012 for newbies and other focused clinics (CT &amp; FL).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>I have served as an Advisor to the Smashers Pickleball Board for the past five years, helped on numerous Smashers events and submit the monthly Reflection articles.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>I was the Event Manager for the Polk Senior Games 3-day Pickleball Tournament in 2024 and will do the same in 2025.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>I am the current Chair of the Court Expansion Committee.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>I have been the Secretary and Vice President of the Solivita Fishing Club and Secretary of the Solivita Horseshoe Club.&nbsp; I have been a Committee Member of the annual Solivita Car Show for twelve years and the Event Lead for the past eight years and will be again in 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I retired in 2011 from RTK Environmental Group LLC, an environmental testing and consulting company in Connecticut and N.Y.&nbsp; As a partner, I provided inspections, training, consulting and marketing for lead, mold, asbestos and air quality.&nbsp; I was a founding member of the National Association of Lead Inspectors and helped establish current CT State Lead Laws.&nbsp; I provided expert witness testimony for lead and mold\/IAQ cases and served as a speaker at numerous national indoor air quality conferences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I would like to be considered for a seat on the Smashers Board of Directors.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-container-core-column-is-layout-119bc444 wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"931\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/image2-1024x931.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-19276\" style=\"width:auto;height:150px\" srcset=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/image2-1024x931.jpeg 1024w, \/wp-content\/uploads\/image2-300x273.jpeg 300w, \/wp-content\/uploads\/image2-768x699.jpeg 768w, \/wp-content\/uploads\/image2-600x546.jpeg 600w, \/wp-content\/uploads\/image2.jpeg 1516w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">Elaine Greenzang<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>My name is Elaine Greenzang.&nbsp; I have lived in Solivita since January 2022.&nbsp; I have played pickleball since I moved here.&nbsp; I am also on the women\u2019s and coed softball teams.&nbsp; I have played sports my entire life and coached my daughters softball and basketball teams.&nbsp; I worked as an administrative assistant for 20 years at Suffolk County Department of Health.&nbsp; I would love to help with coordinating events or just giving my help when or where needed.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We are excited to announce the upcoming election for three new board members of the Smashers Pickleball Club.
