Community Outreach to all Osceola County Physical Education Teachers in August 2025

The Smashers Community Outreach team taught pickleball during the three day teacher development training for Osceola Schools on August 6-8.  On Wednesday, they taught 40 P.E. elementary teachers, on Thursday 20 high school P.E. teachers and Friday 25 middle school P.E. teachers.

It was rewarding, but exhausting (getting up before 6 am every day, who does that).

We are blessed with the best Instructors.  We had 25 volunteer Instructors and some did ALL 3 days.

Good Morning-

Thank you so much for the work you and your group put in last week! Everyone had such a great time. Not only did they learn the sport, but they also saw some quality teaching methods that they can use across the curriculum.

Let’s keep in touch as I know schools will be reaching out about having you come in to their schools.

Sincerely,
Matt Murphy, M.Ed., CAA

Mater Academy

A BIG thank you to the thirteen Instructors who volunteered their time to teach pickleball at Mater Academy Davenport this past week. We taught periods 1-4 on Monday, periods 5-8 on Wednesday and the whole day (8am-3pm) on Friday.  We were able to get 4 nets set up on the volleyball court each day.  The Principal and a teacher even came out and played.  Coach Turner was very appreciative and even joined the Instructors in the demo game on Friday.  Coach showed pickleball videos during class time on Thursday.  The students were so excited about pickleball by Friday that they came running out to play!  We even got some hugs!

Thanks to Patti Greenberg, Lynn Moreno, Debra Wells-Lynn, Kevin Morgan, Barbara Witherspoon, Kalay Stevens, Mark Stevens, Stacey Harrison, Dave Laverty, Michael Prisby, Amy Cai, Bill Widman and Matthew Lytthouse

Please note the 100 Instructor volunteer hours as well as approx. 600 students taught during those  three days.

Auburndale Community Center

Visited and played at Auburndale Community Center to get some ideas on presenting their model to our local park

Arrington

Checked out the basketball court at the Arrington facility on Cypress Parkway and it would be a playable surface. However, after multiple attempts at offering a camp with everything provided free of cost, they still want us to “rent” the court for $40/hour
